Hardscaping Replacement in Woodbury Heights, NJ

This recent hardscaping replacement in Woodbury Heights, NJ was a special project for us, as it was for our longtime customers, Mr. and Mrs. Jacoby. We first worked with them years ago on a beautiful bluestone patio in their backyard, and we truly value their continued loyalty. When an unexpected plumbing issue required their front concrete landing to be removed, it created an opportunity to upgrade the tired front walkway and give their entrance a fresh new look.

Designing the Hardscaping Replacement in Woodbury Heights, NJ

The Jacobys have great taste and a preference for natural stone, so they chose a stunning bluestone walkway. The design features a random pattern using five different sizes of stone, all laid at a 45-degree angle to create visual interest. This new bluestone pairs perfectly with their existing brick retaining wall, creating a classic colonial look that is truly timeless. To create a smooth transition between the walkway and the wall, we added two columns that act as bookends for the new landing. These are topped with natural blue column caps, ready for a pair of decorative planters.

Details of the Hardscaping Replacement

To give the walkway a clean, finished look, we installed a “sailor course,” which is a perimeter border of pavers. For the four new steps, we were happy to incorporate charcoal bullnose step treads, a favorite of Mrs. Jacoby. These small details work together to elevate the entire project. After the landings and walkway were complete, the Jacobys decided that adding new plantings would complete the front yard transformation. We planted a hedge of Buxus sempervirens anchored by pyramidal Buxus sempervirens pyramidalis. The dark evergreen foliage of these slow-growing boxwoods will develop into a beautiful, classic hedge for years to come.
